Harvey - Edlerly Home Cleanup

Donation protected

We are raising funds to help the elderly families that were affected by hurricane harvey.  We have updated this campaign to help and adopt additional elderly couples that we have personally met while rescuing people out of their flooded homes in Houston TX.

My name is Will Bradley (native Houstonian) and the video on this page is the home of an 87 year old couple I met whose Houston home was flooded early Sunday morning during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.   They live in my neighborhood.  Their name is Mr and Mrs Phillips.  Mr Phillips flagged me down while I was kayaking down his street helping another flooded neighbor, he said he and his wife needed to be rescued.

While in their home I realized one of the most urgent needs is going to be cleaning up the flood damage for those who cannot physically clean it up themselves.  Even just dragging trash and damaged items to the curb.

Unfortunately these people have lost everything.  Their home is a one story home and the waters continued to rise over the next three days following this video.  I expect them to have water in their home for the next two weeks before the water levels finally recede.

This page was created with the intention to address the first thing anyone would do if their home was flooded: cleaning up the mess.  This invlolves doing the basic tasks of dragging damaged items to the curb, ripping up carpet, dry wall, and anything else with water damage.

These are the first things necessary to perform before contractors, insurance agents, and general rebuilding can begin.

This fundraiser aims to raise money for Mr and Mrs Phillips, but also other elderly couples and handicap individuals, who can not physically perform the basic clean up necessary before rebuilding can begin.

100% of funds raised will go towards the cleanup of damaged homes owned by the elderly or handicapped during the flood waters following Hurricane Harvey, specifically in the Houston, TX area.

I had the privelidge of meeting several couples that meet this criteria while we were using a Jon Boat to rescue families out of their homes.  The Phillips being first on my list.  Other homes include a 93 year old woman with several feet of water in her single story home, and a widowed woman in her 70's who helped shelter others until help could arrive.  There was another woman whose was in her 80's on a wheel chair with 24hr nursing care needed.   Funds raised will go towards helping each of these families during the cleanup process.

Unfortunately there are 1000's of people in this situation and we will start a sign up sheet where people can submit other names that meet this criteria that we can help.  There more money we raise, the more we can help.

Money raised will go towards hiring full time labor and clean up supplies.

We intend to work alongside a strong volunteer base, and will start a signup sheet for those willing to help, as well as partner with churches and other volunteer groups.  A full time contract labor force will also be hired that volunteers can work alongside on the weekends or weekdays as their work schedule permits.  I think it is important to have some full time labor as this first cleanup process will be extensive and last several weeks if not months.  Most volunteers will be on a day by day basis and I need a labor force that can be there throughout the entire process. I would like to hire at least four full time labor workers.

Below is a list of some of the supplies needed for the cleanup process:

Hiring Contract Labor
General Cleaning Supplies
Mold Removal Products
High powered chargeable work lights
High Powered Shop fans
De-Humidifiers
Shop vacs and filters
Face masks
Plastic gloves & leather work gloves
Generators and portable charging stations
Extension cords and power strips
Demo Materials
Trash Removal Services and or Dumpsters

This need is immediate and we intend to start immediately.

Please email with any other names of elderly people whom you think meet this criteria.  Also email me if you would be willing to volunteer to help clean up.

I will create a calendar of work days and what houses we are working on which days.

I will also upload progress pictures to this page.

Thank you so much & God Bless,

Will
