Harvard AsAm x #BlackLivesMatter Fundraiser

Open to all identities and also non-Harvard affiliates.

The Asian American organizations and alumni of Harvard are committing to match donations up to $14K and counting. As we hear back from more organizations and alumni, we will be regularly updating this total.

These funds will be distributed to two ActBlue funds, one which splits donations between community bail funds and another which splits donations between 11 organizations including BLM, NAACP, Reclaim the Block, and more. For a comprehensive view to exactly which bail funds we are donating to, please see here. *

As you may know, protests have erupted over the past few days in cities all over the United States and worldwide over the death of George Floyd, who was murdered as a result of the violent and unlawful actions of several officers in the Minneapolis Police Department.

One of the officers complicit is an Asian American man, who stood by as his partner murdered George Floyd. This instance is one example of Asian American complicity in systems of white supremacy — a system which includes not only police violence, but the systemic surveillance, profiling, and mass incarceration of Black people.

We, the Asian American community of Harvard, condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with George Floyd and all victims of police brutality.

Seeing the impact of such actions, the executive board of the Harvard Radcliffe Asian American Association (AAA) has decided to redirect our fundraising efforts to organize a collective Harvard As/Am x BLM fundraiser. The following organizations and/or their alumni have contributed to the match fund:

– Harvard-Radcliffe Asian American Association (AAA)
– Harvard Asian American Alumni Alliance (H4A)
– Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR)
– Asian American Brotherhood (AAB)
– Harvard Korean Association (HKA)
– Harvard Khmer Student Association (KSA)
– Harvard Vietnamese Association (HVA)
– Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia Association (SIAMA)
– Harvard Philippine Forum (HPF)
– Korean International Students Association (KISA)
– Half Asian Peoples Association (HAPA)
– Asian Students Art Project (ASAP)
– Harvard College in Asia Program (HCAP)
– Asian American Women's Association (AAWA)
– Task Force for Asian American Progressive Advocacy and Studies (TAPAS)
– Harvard Radcliffe Chinese Students Association (CSA)
– Harvard Dharma
– Asian Americans for Political Justice (AAPJ)
– Taiwanese Cultural Society (TCS)
– South  Asian Men's Collective (SAMC)
– South Asian Americans in Public Service (SAAPS)
– Harvard South Asian Association (SAA)

(As we hear back from more organizations, these lists will be updated.)

By presenting a unified front from As/Am organizations and their respective alumni/ae we hope to not only show our solidarity in the Harvard As/Am community but also encourage others to do the same. We hope to emphasize that the Asian American community – at Harvard and beyond – stands in solidarity with the African American community. We appreciate any sort of contribution and are sending love and support to all.

*We understand that some of the organizations and bail funds listed have already announced they’ve received sufficient funds and asked future funding to be redirected to other organizations. If that is the case by the time this fundraiser ends, we will remove them from our list and divide the donations by the remaining organizations.
