Harsh's battle against Lymphoma.
Harsh Agarwalla is a brilliant accountant and a loving son, brother and a great friend. October 2016 he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He is being treated for this disease at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, Canada. After several failed attempts at remission using traditional chemotherapy, his hematologist (Dr. Lisa Chodirker, Sunnybrook Hospital - Toronto) has suggested that he try a different drug, an antibody, Brentuximab.
Brentuximab is currently not covered through OHIP or his private insurance. Though it is covered in Manitoba and British Columbia. Many Hodgkins Lymphoma patients have attained remission after using this drug. As recommended by his doctors, this drug will likely help him attain remission. This drug costs $9000/dose. His doctors are suggesting that he will likely need 3 to 5 doses of this medication to attain remission. Given traditional chemotherapy has not worked his hematologists are left with limited options and they strongly suggest that we move ahead with this treatment.
We are looking to raise around $45,000 for his treatment. If any money remains unused they will be donated to help other patients who are in need of funding. I am a friend of Harsh's. Over the years I have seen him grow into an individual that everyone enjoys being around. He is always there to help anyone anytime of the day. We as his friends are making a small effort to raise some funds for his treatment which is crucial for his path towards recovery.
Harsh is single and is the only earning member in his family. He has been on disability since October 2016. He lost his father in 2011 and older sister the same year. His mother, who is a house wife is visiting him to help. His younger brother is a student, living in India.
