Baby Harry's Adoption Expenses

Hello, we're the Lane family, Carissa, Aaron, Rae and now baby Harry!   When Carissa and I married we always had an idea that we'd want to adopt someday but there weren't any set plans.  In 2011 we had a miscarriage and thought we'd never be able to have a child of our own.  However, God had other ideas.  

In May of 2013 we had our wonderful daughter Rae.   Becoming a parent was one of the best things that ever happened to us.  We were able to pour out unconditional love onto our child.  A few years later we knew we had much more love to give.  Again we were faced with difficulties of becoming pregnant that we felt God was calling us to pursue adoption for our next child.  

We were scheduled to meet July 29th with a birth mom who was due August 12th.  She had seen our adoption booklet and decided we would be a good family for her child.  On Wednesday morning (July 27th) we got a call at 8:30 am saying that she was going into labor and we needed to come up to Michigan.  We packed for a few days, dropped our daughter off at my sisters, and arrived 3 1/2 hours later at the hospital where a beautiful baby boy had been born.

Meeting the birth parents for the first time in the hospital was definitely different.  We chatted for hours and really got to know them while getting to know baby Harry.  All of us just sort of clicked and it felt like we were talking to friends right away.  I couldn't believe how wonderful that whole experience was.

After the parents left the hospital, Carissa and I had to stay in Michigan until we were approved to leave the state and return to Ohio.  We ended up staying in a hotel for 7 nights until finally on Friday afternoon we were allowed to return.

This process has been long and difficult with many bumps along the way.  Another bump is the overall cost of adoption.  A typical domestic adoption can vary from 20,000 to 40,000 dollars.  The costs includes placement fees, home study, lawyers for birth mom and adoptive parents, and hospital bills.  They can all pile up pretty quickly.  While we are also pursuing alternative ways to raise money, any donation here would be a huge blessing to our family.  We in no way would want anyone to feel pressured to give.  Thank you all so much for your support.
