Harry needing an operation

Hi,

Our names are Caroline and Steve.

Our 14 year old son Harry has pectus excavatum and requires a NUSS operation to correct this.

Pectus excavatum can result in later life heart and lung issues, this needs to be corrected sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately this is an operation that NHS England won't pay for as its classed as cosmetic surgery!!! ( I know its ok to have weight loss surgery or breast reduction on the NHS).

Not treating this condition is definitely not an option in Harry's case as the gap between his chest plate and his spine is too close, this can start to crush his heart and lungs ( and yet still can't be done under NHS England ).

The only way we can get this done is by going private this costs money we have been advised by the Dr that this cost is £18,000.

We appreciate things are very hard at the moment for everyone but we are trying to do what we can for our son.

* If we do hit over our target and once we get a confirmed cost from The Portland Hospital, Harry wishes to pass any extra funds to the next child the NHS is failing.
