Harrods Hill Rec Center Renovation

For many years, the Harrods Hill Recreation Center (HHRC) has been a beacon to support dreams, health, fitness, and foster community spirit. An important part of our neighborhood and surrounding areas for decades, the HHRC has become the summertime meeting place for neighbors, friends, and family members. The sense of community pride that it engenders is an important facet of the fabric of our community.  But now, the HHRC is in critical need of our help. Serious repairs have become necessary due to the age of the pool and tennis courts and their heavy usage over the years. The pool area in particular needs a complete overhaul to repair leaks, bring the electrical components up to code, repair and stain the deck, and repair and upgrade the pool house.  Estimates for these necessary repairs total approximately $90,000, and we need your support today.  Unfortunately, if these funds aren’t raised in time to complete the repairs in the coming months, the pool will close. It goes without saying the devastating effect this would have on our vibrant neighborhood. Property values across all of Harrods Hill will go down in a ripple effect across the entire area. No one wants an eyesore in the neighborhood.  But we have an opportunity to not only make this right, but to create a sustainable HHRC with a responsible and fiscally-conservative financial plan. Once these renovations are complete, budget line items for long-term maintenance items such as roof and deck repair, painting, staining, and concrete replacement, plus a rainy-day contingency fund, will be incorporated into our annual budget. Doing this will ensure current and future residents will never have to deal with what we are currently facing.   We are asking for your support by October 21 to make the necessary improvements and to prevent the pool from closing. These improvements promise to breathe new life into the entire neighborhood, and sustain our larger community and children for years to come. Your support will have an immediate impact on the resources and space we provide to the Harrods Hill and greater Beaumont/Palomar areas.
