Hi,

I’m Harrison, an 18 year old aspiring Jazz Musician. I’m auditioning this autumn hoping to study for a jazz music performance degree at one of the leading conservatoires.

I have been accepted onto the prestigious Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony in California this August.

This will be an incredible opportunity for me to spend a week learning alongside some of the most talented students at a highly respected Music Conservatoire, The University of the Pacific, California.

Only 3 musicians were chosen from the UK for this opportunity,  with 24 students participating worldwide.

I will need to raise money for return flights and course fees.

So....why am I doing this?

A bit of background about me -

I don't come from a musical family or the traditional junior jazz music school routes so have learned jazz guitar independently, combined with my secondary school's A-level music studies, to get where I am today.

My main instrument is jazz guitar but I also perform on double bass, compose, arrange and have my own trio. I'm a member of the Southend Choirs (8 years) and have toured with them in Germany, Italy, Rome and recently recorded with them for the BBC Ten Pieces Proms: Vivaldi's Gloria and Orff's Carmina Burana.

At 16, Mark Armstrong noticed my potential during a one day jazz workshop and invited me to join the NYJO academy January 2017......the beginning of my professional jazz tuition!

One year later, 2018.....

On jazz guitar I perform and rehearse weekly with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra Academy,  MD Phil Meadows & Gemma Buckenham, National Youth Jazz Collective, Mick Foster MD and play double bass with the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra & Sextet under Martin Hathaway MD.  I have my own jazz trio and have performed with them at The Jazz Centre UK, Southend and also with Digby Fairweather & guests.

I’m support for Rob Luft on his Riser tour,  26th May 2018 with my quartet in Hitchin @ Club-85.

Fundraising gig.....

I have made some great friends along my musical journey many through NYJO and locally at The Southend Jazz Centre (UK). I will be holding a free fundraising gig  @ Unit 21, Southend Pier, Southend-on-sea, 1st July 2018 2-4pm with my trio and guests.

My ambition is to study jazz at a conservatoire after my A levels and hopefully become a professional jazz musician, arranger and band leader. This course will help develop my skills in preparation for my auditions.

Any donations large or small will be greatly appreciated and will be used solely to pursue my musical ambition!

Thanks for reading.
