Harrisburg Mobile Design Studio

Hello my name is Jeannine Harbin and I am the owner/artist/designer at the brand Savage Habit Exchange. Recently I have been extremely saddened by the amount of lives being lost to violence. In doing some neighborhood outreach with my church to give out art supplies, the mission was incomplete due to gunshots ringing out. It brought out just the right amount of emotion in me that I started thinking about solutions that I could create. I have personally found a lot of healing and therapy in the arts and design and have it in my heart to give the youth a safe place where someone cares and they can experience healing through the arts and in expressing themselves. Last year I did a presentation and worked on a piece of clothing with a group at Youth Advocates Inc in Harrisburg, a program that serves as an alternative to incarceration. They were definitely interested and wanted to learn more, some started painting and they asked if I could come back again.

When we look at juvenile centers and prisons, they offer classes like violence prevention but never discuss "what happened to YOU?" The trauma is never addressed, and it is creating cycles of traumas throughout generations. Children need to know that they have the power to break these generational curses and all it takes is someone planting a seed in them. A LOT of people are living with things that have happened to them and art is proven to help with working through trauma. They also need somebody to care and, I do! In addition to these benefits, there is a serious lack of opportunities for children living in Harrisburg city and this is a needed addition.

The donations I am asking for would be to establish a nonprofit 501c. I would then like to obtain a mobile design studio with either a renovated bus or truck, where I would ideally be able to have power access and have a sewing machine area, a design area with mannequins, an area for painting, and one or more racks to house in progress items. I would also like multiple compact folding tables & chairs in a storage area to be able to accommodate 15-20 youth at a time.

Once I find an exact vehicle (bus/truck) I will likely be updating my goal to reflect this price.

Thank you all in advance! I truly believe that this has the ability to help the youth in our city stay on the right track and give them a positive outlet, while teaching them about business, and bringing it to them which has never been done before!
