Harper is 14 weeks old and is currently receiving treatment at the critical care ward of the Noahs Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales.
After being turned away by a Gp and being dismissed as having a cold, Harper took a turn for the absolute worse the day after and was rushed to A & E, where upon arrival she was barely breathing, we were told another minute or two and she would not have been breathing at all.
Within minutes staff literally saved her life and admitted her to the children’s ward, where she quickly went down hill. The decision was made to sedate Harper to give her body a rest and transfer her to Noah’s Ark. She was placed onto a ventilator and the machines did the breathing for her.
In total Harper was on the ventilator for 4 days, before they began to wean her off and encourage and help her to be able to breathe on her own. It wasn’t easy for her, with staff having to ‘bag’ her regularly to help when her oxygen levels would drop. Tubes and machines working hard alongside the nursing team to give Harper the care she desperately needed to be here now.
She is still on the ward receiving antibiotics for her Bronchiolitis and is thankfully now breathing on her own, but still needs a little help.
As a family we can never thank the team enough for saving Harpers life, but this is our way, to at least give something back.x
