Harper's Adoption Puzzle

Donation protected
We were asked in July about adopting a little girl who was due on October 31st, 2017. At first we were shocked to think we would be able to have a baby, for those that are unaware Sierra has some fertility issues and we knew she may never be able to get pregnant. However we gladly accepted the offer to adopt this little bundle of joy. In the coming months we prepared for her arrival. We hired a lawyer who told us nothing could be done until she was born and gave us the costs and took some of our information. We knew the cost and how much we would need to save. We purchased a new dresser, a rug, a rocking chair and other things for the baby's room knowing that we already had all the money we needed for the adoption costs. At the beginning of October we met again with the lawyer to pay in full and to get the paperwork started as we knew in the next month we would have our little girl. On November 2nd, 2017 at 7:08am our little girl was born. Sierra and I both were in the delivery room, and Sierra even got to cut the cord. It was the most beautiful experience of our lives. We were the ones who got to name her. We both had done our searching and both loved the name Harper. For her middle name we put our middle names together - Brookelee. We were transferred to our own room in the hospital to allow us some bonding time alone with Harper. When it came time to be discharged we done all necessary paperwork that the lawyer had given us and came home. All of the paperwork that had been completed was turned into the lawyer who was going to go file the adoption case with the court house and stated that we would be receiving a notice of the court date. After several weeks had passed and we hadn't heard anything in reference to the court date we attempted to contact the lawyer multiple times. Finally on a Thursday the lawyer informed us that they had a case for us the following Tuesday to start the process but we were not needed to be there at that time. That Tuesday came and we didn't hear anything all day. Nothing on Wed, Thurs or Fri either. Friday evening we contacted a friend that works at the court house and told her of the issue and she gave us a number to call at the juvenile domestic court. Sierra called them and was told that there was no such case on Tuesday and after she researched all of our names in the system, nothing turned up. Nothing had ever been filed through the court system.

We were heartbroken. We did not even know where to turn. We had paid this lawyer in full. The money that we had saved for this process was gone. After a long worrysome weekend we contacted a new lawyer on Monday morning and set a consultation for Tuesday.

After meeting with the new laywer we found out that the little bit of stuff that the original lawyer had done was not done the correct way and that there is more to it than the original lawyer made it out to be. We found out that we have to have a home study done which costs approximately $3500.00! Our new laywer, who has done several adoptions before, will cost approximately $3000.00 for their fee's and court costs. Totaling around $6500.00.

Here is where we need your help! We had several friends come forward with fundraising ideas and all of those were greatly appreciated. After researching into this we found a very special adoption fundraiser. It's called an adoption puzzle fundraiser. Here is how it works. We are going to purchase a puzzle with a family picture printed on it. We will then be on the hunt for people who would like to help sponser Harper's adoption puzzle. To sponser a puzzle piece it's $10. When you sponser a piece we will write your name on the back of the puzzle piece. How you put your name on the puzzle piece is your choice. If we wanted to sponser a piece we could put ''The Hilliards'' or we could sponser 3 pieces and do a piece with each of our names on it! Once we finish putting the puzzle together we are going to frame it and put it on the wall in Harper's bedroom so in the years to come we can take it down and show Harper all of those who helped make her puzzle complete.

If you are interested in being a piece of Harper's puzzle we have made this GoFundMe that you can goto to donate. Please include in the message what name is to go on the puzzle piece. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Please share this! Have a blessed day.
