Harlem World Magazine Cares
Our mission of Harlem World Magazine CARES (HWM Cares) is to recruit, empower, and mobilize our caring readers. Inspired by founder Danny Tisdale’s early work at the Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) in Harlem, NY.
Our Story
In 2010, we created Harlem Youth Publishing Empowerment (HYPE), to create a nonprofit that recruits and trains the next generation of publishing in Harlem.
Created in partnership with Danny Tisdale and Research Assistant/Project Manager Nneka R. Ibekwe at Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) at Teachers College at Columbia University.
We found out that there was more need in Harlem than just recruiting and training the next generation of publishing, - like food, the arts, small business, health working with the Los Angeles Poverty Department (LAPD), and the health of the planet with Harlems Dr. Paul Falkowski in Harlem flood of 2100, politics working with electeds to solve problems and much more.
