Support Happy Militant Mothers' Day!

On Saturday, May 7 we will celebrate 50th anniversary of a seminal grassroots victory by a small group of mostly single moms living at Raymur Place Housing in East Vancouver. Dubbed the Militant Mothers of Raymur, the group took on City Hall, the courts, the railways, the Port and local businesses by blockading the busy train tracks their kids had to cross every day to get to and from Admiral Seymour elementary school. Their months-long direct action in 1971 pushed the City of Vancouver to build of a pedestrian overpass over the train tracks that is still in use today.

Fifty years after that epic struggle, the Militant Mothers and their families want to celebrate that historic victory with a festive public gathering. They are fundraising to pay for a three-hour outdoor public event next to the railway tracks at 600 Raymur Avenue. The Militant Mothers and their children will share their stories and there will be music, art, presentations, food and refreshments with time for people to reminisce and ask questions.

This fundraising campaign is to cover the costs of food, documentation, promotion and event supply rentals. Any contribution you make will be greatly appreciated!

All funds raised for the Happy Militant Mothers' Day event will  go to RAY-CAM COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION, with a note- MILITANT MOTHERS.  All donations will help make an impact. Thank you for your support!

"RayCam Community Centre has a proud history of supporting families and our community. Starting from a movement to protect children crossing the railroad tracks to school, growing into a food co-op and finally into a full-fledged community centre, the spirit of the Militant Mothers of Raymur has been a guiding force in our work."
