Support Militant Mothers' Day!

On Saturday, May 7 we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of a seminal grassroots victory by a small group of mostly single moms living at Raymur Place Housing in East Vancouver. Dubbed the Militant Mothers of Raymur, we took on City Hall, the courts, the railways, the Port and local businesses by blockading the busy train tracks our kids had to cross every day to get to and from Admiral Seymour elementary school. Our months-long direct action in 1971 pushed the City of Vancouver to build of a pedestrian overpass over the train tracks that is still in use today. 

Now we want to honour and celebrate that historic victory with a 50th anniversary gathering hosted by the Militant Mothers, their families, and the Ray-Cam Cooperative Centre. We are fundraising for a three-hour public event next to the railway tracks at 600 Raymur Avenue. There will be ceremony and celebration with frontline stories and music, art, presentations, food and refreshments and more. 

This fundraising campaign is to help cover the costs of food, documentation, promotion and event rentals. Any contribution you make will be greatly appreciated!
