Running for Sheila clarke

My mother-in-law Sheila Clarke was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurones Disease. This obviously came as a shock to everybody but to none more so than Sheila herself. One of the first things to come out of the initial few days of chaos, that this type of news brings, was that Sheila would love to fulfill a dream of hers and go and see the Northern Lights while she is still able.

MND affects the control of important muscle activities and eventually, a person with motor neurone disease may be unable to move. Communicating, swallowing and breathing may also become very difficult.

For the time being we are still in the dark as to the type of MND Sheila has but suspect that she has anywhere between a few months and a few precious years with us.

Not knowing how quickly Sheila's general health will deteriorate we feel the safest and easiest option for her to see the Northern Lights would be on a cruise. Therefore the money raised will hopefully cover the cost of the cruise and any extra raised will be used to purchase any aids, equipment and adaptations as her condition progresses.

It just so happens that in November I will be running in the Authentic Greek Marathon (from Marathon-Athens) and i will ask anyone wishing to sponsor me to donate onto this page as well as anybody who would like to make someone's dreams come true and make a once in a lifetime memory for Sheila and her loving husband Andy.
