Hansens' Funeral & Living Expenses

My friends Jeff and Margaret Hansen lost one of their daughters, Olivia Hansen, to cancer last Friday. She was 7 years old.
You may have read about Olivia a few times in the Kansas City Star, and you may have seen her on posters at local Community Blood Centers, because she was awesome and the whole community was rooting for her. Here is the last article about her: Kansas City Star
Olivia was diagnosed with cancer when she was 17 months old. She was a fighter, and she was beautiful, and she was an inspiration. And I think in her 7 years on this earth she touched more lives than most people do in 70.
During this ordeal, Margaret and her family would post updates about Olivia for those of us following them on CaringBridge and Facebook. The updates described medical procedures and horrors that no child should have to face. But the updates weren't just about horrible things, they also talked about hope and about life. The whole family showed unbelievable grace and dignity in the face of this tragedy. I've never seen anything like it.
Now the Hansens will face funeral expenses and medical expenses in addition to the day-to-day bills we all have to pay. Margaret quit her job a few years ago to care for Olivia, and Jeff has been on leave from his job so that he could be with his daughter as much as possible these last few months.
We cannot ease the pain of losing Olivia. But as a community, we could make sure that for at least a little while Jeff and Margaret don't have to worry about the funeral costs, the mortgage, the car payment, the electrical bill, and all the other bills that will keep coming in the mail even as they grieve.
Whether you want to give in honor of a little girl who inspired Kansas City, or in honor of a mom and a dad who taught her how to live that way, or whether you just want to give to help out a family that needs a hand, give as much as you can.
