Hanover & Beyond Christmas Fundraiser
Donation protected
‘Hanover & Beyond’ is a community campaign raising funds and donations to provide essential and locally sourced food hampers for Brighton folk in need this Christmas. We’re proud to be supporting Hanover-based Church of the Annunciation, the Phoenix Community Association and the amazing Brighton Table Tennis Club charity in Kemptown to reach those who need it most.
‘Hanover & Beyond’ would like to help these amazing community beacons in their work by raising funds to provide Christmas hampers for the people they support. The hampers will consist of supplies bought from our brilliant neighbourhood cafes, retailers and local suppliers, who have also been hit hard by the events of this year. We plan to have a fully festive hamper pick-up day in the garden of the church in Hanover on Saturday 19th December. Any donations or food left over will be passed on directly to our community partners in plenty of time for Christmas.
We really need your help to do this – no donation is too big or too small - and we are extremely grateful for any help you can offer. The fund will be managed by the Church of the Annunciation Treasurer, the lovely Jan Stevens, so you can be certain 100% of funds raised will go to those in need.
A little more about our partners:
The Church of the Annunciation is a community-focused church in the heart of Hanover. Last Christmas they helped to feed 30 families in need. This year, as a result of the pandemic, they believe the demand for help will be significantly higher.
Since the first COVID-19 lockdown, the Phoenix Community Association has vitally been supporting 100 estate residents with basic food provisions (out of a total 575 residents). The percentage of children living in poverty on the estate is 23%; 6% higher than the rest of England.
The Brighton Table Tennis Club is much, much more than a sports centre in Kemptown. They run 100 tables across the city in parks, schools, sheltered housing schemes, a centre for homeless people, sports centres and a psychiatric hospital. Their members include people with learning disabilities, young people from the Brighton Travellers site, Looked After Children, people with physical disabilities, people from the LGBT community and young asylum seekers. The club is the world’s first recognised Club of Sanctuary, for its work with refugees. And amazingly they still find time to run their food bank, supported by The Real Junk Food Project, and have provided thousands of meals to those in need during the COVID-19 crisis (https://fb.watch/1CwTm77dQJ/).
Here’s hoping we can make Christmas a little brighter for everyone.
Thank you.
