Hannah's Art Studio

Meet Hannah!

Hannah is a 22 year old with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is a remarkable young woman that makes everyone around her laugh daily. She is also an amazing artist and loves to draw, paint, sculpt...anything artistic really.

She lives with her parents and they have made a small art studio for her in the basement of their house. It's made up of a folding table and small art desk. Shoeboxes and plastic containers hold all of the treasures that Hannah has collected for her art work.

Hannah will never be able to hold down a regular job because of her cognitive limitations, however with encouragement and help from her family she has managed to sell some of her artwork. More than anything her parents would like to be able to provide Hannah with a true art studio. With that she might be able to sell some of her amazing creations. Her ceiling tile work is already in a local hair salon. With a real place to work on her art we can imagine her tiles in dentist offices (would be much nicer to look at than a white ceiling!), pediatrician exam rooms and more hair salons.

The cost of an addition would be about $50,000 according to a local contractor. The room that is planned would have a southern exposure to give her lots of natural light (much better than the dim basement she is working in right now) and would give her the space to spread out and work in a relaxed environment.

About her family: Dad is a 25 year military veteran that served 14 months in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He continues his service in the Rhode Island National Guard. He also works as a Case Manager helping homeless Vets in Rhode Island. Mom spent 18 years working with special needs individuals and now works part time in retail. Her big sister is currently working in Vermont while she prepares to go back to school in the fall and get her Masters Degree in Fine Arts.

Let's face it, Social Security Disability will never give her enough to truly support herself. Lets give her a chance to support herself by funding a place for her to do just that. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps!
