Help Jason & Hannah restore their health and home

Hello! Meet Jason and Hannah, a young newlywed couple who are ready to take on the world together! Jason is a recent honorably discharged Navy veteran who currently works for CBN. Hannah is a recent college grad from Regent University who now works for a staffing company. They were blessed to buy a house just before they said “I do” and started their married lives together.

Unfortunately, a few months into marriage and living in their new home, they discovered mold in their kitchen from what appeared to be an old dishwasher leak. This was just the beginning of a long journey. Not knowing the severity of the mold, they sprayed it down with a bleach cleaner hoping that would take care of it.

However, health concerns gradually rose to be more and more severe as time went on. This led them to do mold testing on their home through an Industrial Hygienist. They were informed that the mold had integrated itself into the kitchen so much so that all cabinets, flooring, and bottom 4 feet of drywall need to be removed and the mold in the home remediated. In addition to this, their bathroom and floors downstairs need replacing as well. The mold is four different kinds and three of them are toxic- especially for immunocompromised individuals.

Which leads to the next point: this has been particularly challenging for Jason and Hannah for several reasons— most vividly, their health has taken a decline. Jason has been battling Lyme’s disease as well as a potential heart condition to which the mold is undoubtedly not helping in the process. Hannah has two genetic conditions that directly impair her body’s ability to process toxins (aka mold) out of her system and lead her to be immunocompromised. She for several years now has prioritized clean eating, organic products, and a toxin-free life as much as she can. However, living in a home that has toxic mold has defeated many of her efforts and led to months of being notably ill (including a scary case of double-lung pneumonia— which one of the molds in the home is known to cause).

Upon finding out about the state of their home and it containing toxic mold, they started calling more professionals and started an insurance claim. Sadly, insurance denied coverage since the damage was there before they moved in (I know… how did the inspector miss this?). They have spoken to two lawyers to see if any legal recourse can come and were regrettably informed that winning a case on something like this is extremely unlikely. So, now they have a home with mold that needs remediation and the floors/kitchen/bathroom restored afterward. That leads us to here…. they need your help.

They have found a professional remediation company to remove the mold in the floors, kitchen, and bathroom. The charge estimate comes to around 11,000 just to gut everything out and remove the mold. Hannah was blessed to receive a grant from her company of 10,000 to remove the mold (yay!!). They are beginning the removal process in less than a week.

However, once the floors, drywall, cabinets, counters, bathroom sink/toilet, and more are removed- there is the issue that things need to be put back in so they can have a functional place to live again. Jason and Hannah have done their best to save as much money as they can. But, with entry-level-pay jobs and thousands of dollars spent on medical bills, they have only been able to save enough for a small emergency fund. They plan to put everything they can into the restoration efforts- but we know they need much more than that.

We are asking you to partner with us in wrapping our arms around this young couple and donate whatever you can- no amount is too small!! They have been praying and trusting that God will provide for them and take care of them no matter what in this process. With trials and disappointments brimming throughout the journey, it has been hard. They have seen more challenges in their first year of marriage than most couples encounter in decades. But still, they are holding fast to God's provision and promises. Please pray for them and join in practical support if you can! Thank you for surrounding our dear friends with love and generosity.

With grateful and hopeful hearts,
Rebecca and Calvin Allen
