Hannah shaves for Cambodian animals

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Hannah, I'm 16 years old and I’m going to be shaving my head to raise vital funds for Dr Thy Buntha, a vet in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This is his story.

“Unbeknown to many there is a humble 'Superman' living in Siem Reap, Cambodia. He is setting a great example for his people and this community.” This is how our friend Nicole describes Dr Thy Buntha who single handedly runs the Ouk Hok Sy Veterinary Clinic with limited resources but lots of heart and determination.

He works seven days a week straight, well into the early morning hours. He often doesn't get to sleep at all and cannot remember the last time he had a day off. He is worried many of the animals he sees will die if he is not available to care for them.

Buntha is overwhelmed by the demands of many Khmer animal lovers in desperate need of his services. Many are poor and often come a long way to see him. Sometimes he does not even ask for payment, as he knows many can ill afford it. He patiently works through queues of people with sick or injured animals, treating them all to the best of his ability with little assistance.

Buntha has been committed to caring for animals since he was a young boy, after his beloved puppy stepped on and was tragically killed by a landmine, leaving him devastated. He is following in the footsteps of his uncle, who was a well-known animal practitioner.

He has a wife and two young children (one of whom has Down Syndrome) and rarely gets to spend time with them due to his dedication to his clinic. Hindered by lack of resource, Buntha needs to further his studies and his veterinary degree. He also needs funds to repair much of his clinic (including the roof, back gate, and front of the building) so he can continue to provide the highest standard of care possible in his situation. He also often struggles to acquire necessary medications. He needs help in order to continue to follow up on treatment, as he also runs an outreach medical program to 17 pagodas in the area, which care for many dumped animals.

All funds raised in this campaign will directly finance these things. By donating to this campaign, you are helping Buntha to continue his great work with animals, and thus making a massive difference to the lives of the people and animals in Siem Reap.

My great shave will be taking place on Thursday 7th September at Koha Community Cafe. Please come along and support me!

I will be donating my hair to Variety; an organisation that provides wigs to children who have lost their hair.
