Hannah Rothlin Healing Campaign

Dear friends near and far,

My name is Hannah Rothlin and I live in St. George Utah. I am a 57 year old single woman. For the past four years I have been a loyal and valued employee at my work. I have worked in the health and wellness field for over 30 years and   dedicated my life to fitness and health both personally and professionally. My role as an exercise specialist requires me to administer balance and fitness assessments for older adults. I hurt my lower back on Dec.5, 2017 trying to catch an elderly client from falling. For the past 9 months I have gone through a very difficult experience with workers compensation and as of May 23, 2018 I was denied continued financial and medical support. After all conservative measures have been tried including physical therapy, time, steroid injections and chiropractics; back surgery (L5-S1 fusion) is what I am facing. My job has been reduced to half time and I have been denied short term disability because I was a work comp client. On Monday August 20, 2018 I am having L5-S1 fusion surgery through my own personal health insurance. I will be off work for 8-12 weeks and maybe I will able to return to work half time depending upon my progress. There are other issues with my spine that will need to be addressed after I recover from this surgery. I may need additional surgeries in the future. I may not be able to return to the work I have done for the past 30 years. I will appeal the work comp decision, but it could take a minimum of a year or more to resolve this issue. Right now I need to focus on my healing from this upcoming surgery.

The reason I am writing is because I have exhausted all of my personal funds supporting myself working only part time over the past 3 months. I will be off work for 8-12 weeks recovering from surgery with no income. When I return to work it will only be part time. Full recovery is estimated at 6-12 months. Asking for financial help is not easy for me. I am watching my health and my very active life dissolve before my very eyes. Up until this injury I spent most of my weekends and time off traveling, hiking, biking, kayaking, paddle boarding and laughing. It never occurred to me that my employer and the system designed to protect injured workers would abandon me completely when I needed them the most. Someone famous said “when one door closes another opens”. I’m not sure where that open door will be, but I am humbled by the process and I trust that God knows whats coming next.

My fund raising goal is now $14,000 to get me through the next 10 months while I navigate healing and appealing. Thank you in advance for your help. If you feel inspired to pass this Go Fund Me page onto someone else who might know me it is appreciated. I am no longer on Facebook so I trust this request will reach those who are meant to see it. If you are a FB fan thanks for making this request go viral.

 Gratefully yours,

 Hannah
