Help The Homeless Find A Home

“What difference can a dollar make?” That is the question Hannah, age 12, asked this past Sunday.

This is the dollar that we received at church on Sunday. The priest had everyone take an envelope, and in it was a dollar, two dollars, or five dollars. It was based on the “parable of the talents”. He asked everyone to take this gift and see how they could grow it.

Hannah recently visited the local
Homeless Hospitality Center in New London, CT

While there, the kids learned what it meant to be homeless, heard from guests of the shelter about how people view the homeless, and the many ways people can help end homelessness.

We discovered that a gift of $500 would provide the resources needed to pay for the first month’s rent for a “home”. The single most important factor in helping someone end the cycle of homelessness is having them in their own home, where they can find stability and work on improving their lives. This small start can be the catalyst to help someone get back on their feet.

Hannah wanted to use that one dollar bill as a starting point for raising money to help two people find a home for the holidays. To help her in this goal, our family is willing to match up to $500 for any donations made. If we meet this goal of $1,000, we can help people like Greg and John

leave the shelter, have a place to call their own, and begin the healing that is needed to end homelessness.

Just imagine what can be accomplished with just ONE DOLLAR and the generous spirit of all of us. Let’s make this Christmas special for one or more people struggling with homelessness, and prove that anyone can make a difference, even with just one dollar and a caring heart for helping others. Your donation of $5, $25, or more will make a difference in the lives of others...
