My name is Hannah Drerup, and after a change in band leadership at my school, I've chosen to continue the United Sound program here as my senior project. United Sound is a phenomenal organization that provides special education students with the opportunity to learn musical instruments with dedicated help and guidance from their peers. During my time as a peer mentor last year, I formed a strong connection with the students and with the program and wanted them to continue to have this opportunity to do something that they enjoyed. My goal in fundraising it to be able to waive the $35 individual fee for each student and peer mentor, as well as provide high quality rental instruments for each student. My project will culminate in a concert where the United Sound students will join the high school concert band on stage to perform one of the selected pieces. It is my hope that after I graduate, other students will continue this program with any excess funds I raise and continue to foster an inclusive musical community.
