Haney House Fire - REBUILD

We’re the Haney family. My husband Geoff and I have 4 children, 13, 11, 8 and 3. On July 2, 2022 at 9:45pm our house caught fire. All of us made it out on time, but the house was a complete loss, along with our vehicles, all of our possessions and our 4 beloved cats.

Thankfully, we have Homeowners insurance that is covering a rental home while we rebuild on our same property. We have hopes of moving in before the start of the Fall School year.

Our Homeowners insurance appraised our 1200 sq. ft home at $230,000 and our in-home possessions at $80,000. However, we owed $155,000 (with an $800/monthly payment). The rebuild of our new 1200 sq. ft home in our current economy is projecting $370,000. To make the rebuild possible, we had to take out a new mortgage of $525,000 to pay off the old mortgage and begin a new one. Our new mortgage will now be $1,700/monthly payment starting in December of 2023.
