This isn't my story to tell, and I do not know all the details- but let's not get wrapped up with that.
Our local newpaper delivery man greets me with a smile and a wave every morning, as he has for the last five years. He rides his bike with a trailer behind him, wearing his safety vest, stopping at every house in our suburban area. He is in the exact same spot, at the exact same time every morning, regardless of the weather. Yes, even in the heaviest of snows, and the coldest of days. Always with his bike and trailer.
This morning, I noticed he didn't have his bike, or his trailer. He was pulling a green wagon, but still in the exact same spot at the exact same time.
A few hours later, I hopped on facebook to do the daily usual, and I came across something on the local neighborhood watch. HIS NEIGHBOR (not even him) posted that her heart was broken that someone stole this mans bicycle and trailer. He used this to do his job. I thought of how awful that is for him. I couldn't imagine someone stealing my car, or my way of getting to work.
I am asking that we come together as a community, and raise some money so that this gentleman (who I now know as Tom), can get a new trike, trailer, and lock set. Hopefully, after dedicating five years of crappy winter weather to delivering newspapers to our suburban seniors and families, we can come together and get this man a fresh start without jading his opinion of the community.
We raised much more than our goal for our other town favorite (Neil) and I would be very grateful if we could do the same for someone who uses this as part of their daily bread. Any extra monies fundraised will go towards new shoes, winter clothing, or anything else he may need. Thank you in advance for considering this campaign.
