Javan is moving into a new home. It needs handicap accessibility features to make his life more comfortable. Ramps, overhead lift system, and bathroom additions are just a few of the additions required. Please donate to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing these much-needed additions.
Javan has battled with the progressively degenerative type of muscular dystrophy called Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) since age 11. He has slowly been robbed of his physical abilities over the years. Javan started using a wheelchair in 1999, but that was only the beginning of his setbacks. His sight began to diminish in 2010, and he is now legally blind. His hearing has already started failing to where he now can’t distinguish individual voices in a noisy room. In spite of all of this, he has continued to push onward, never letting his disability rule him; he has lived fully, loved, and laughed often. Reading and writing have long provided Javan with both pleasure and a creative outlet. At a very young age, he discovered a passion for writing, and with the help of Nuance’s Dragon Naturally Speaking, he writes every day.
In late 2015, at only 28 years old, Javan was told he might have only a short time left due to the ravages of FA on his heart. Since learning this, his goal has been to complete a significant, lasting body of written work before his time in this world runs out. Once he started writing and publishing his health improved. Along with new medications and a drive to work every day at his passion, he has long passed the time that was given him to live, With new strength and with the love and encouragement of his family and many fans from all over the world, Javan endures. These additions will make life easier on Javan as well as his caregivers for years to come.
A portion of the funds raised will go to monkeyhelpers.org which provided Mango for four years as a helper/companion monkey when Javan needed the help. Mango has since retired and has returned to the monkey college in Boston.
