Handicap Accessible Home For Char

On February 14th 2016,  my sister Charlotte tripped/fell and broke her neck.    She had to have her spine fused and can no longer move her head from side to side or up and down.  While in the hospital her vocal cords were damaged and she had to have a permanent tracheostomy placed.   She is a walking miracle!!   We (her family), always thought she was managing great!  If you know Charlotte you know she is a survivor!  She makes do!   We have learned over the past few months, that sister is struggling in some areas.   As it turns out, when you have your neck fused,  there are many activities of daily living that are complicated or nearly impossible.  For example, getting clothes out of the dryer, sweeping the floor, navigating changes in elevation, removing items from under the sink, carrying in groceries, bending over in the shower, driving, cutting grass...    What we are asking for is help to make some changes in her house so that she may continue to live an independent life.  When we asked Charlotte what would make her life easier she stated that  a handicapped shower, shelves that are  waist to head level, washer/dryer elevated on a platform,  leveled flooring and a concrete pad that she could park her car on and maneuver a cart to unload  her car would allow her to manage life a little easier as well as have some extra energy for grandkids.   We have a contractor coming towards the middle of September.  We as asking money for materials and labor.  If there is any money left over we will use it to help her get adaptive devices (swivel chair so that she can turn her whole body, medical cart with rubber wheels for her ramp etc.) to make her every day activities a little easier.  Your generosity is so appreciated.  Charlotte is usually the one on the other end of this organizing services to help other people.  She has a servants heart.  I will keep you all updated on what is happening at her house.
