Handcyclists to Compete in North America’s Largest 24 Hour Mountain Bike Race

The Challenge: The 24 Hours of Summer Solstice is North America's Largest 24 Hour Mountain Bike Festival and Relay Event! With teams ranging from solo to ten person it's the ultimate challenge!www.chicoracing.com/24hour

Taking it to the Next Level: In 2018, a team of 6 handcyclists from Ontario, Canada, will be the first all-handcycling relay team to complete this epic event – using just their arms to race laps that are approximately 15km in length with over 300 meters in elevation (similar to the height of Blue Mountain).

Breaking Down Barriers:
Representing the Handcycling Club of Canada (www.Handcycling.ca), Team HCC will raise money and awareness to enable others with disabilities to get active and back into the forest. In addition to HCC donations and sponsorships, funds can also be directed to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (www.SCIOntario.org).

A Team Event: In addition to us 6 handcyclists, we have 3 other teams of friends and family racing under the HCC Banner.  These 16 able-bodied athletes will do their own racing, plus individually spot each handcyclist on a lap or two during the 24 hour race.

Call for Sponsors: Sponsors will be promoted on the  handcycles, team jerseys, in the documentary, on our websites, through our social media, etc.  If you'd like to do something custom, please email today at [email redacted].  Please note that The Handcyling Club of Canada does NOT have charity status, so we cannot issue tax receipts for individuals, but we can issue invoices for corporate sponsorship. Once our costs are covered, we'll forward additional funds to SCI Ontario to help others with spinal cord injuries. Or, you can donate directly at www.SCIOntario.org

Help us get those with disabilities active and back into nature!

Sharing the Story: In addition to a video documentary, the journey of training and racing will be captured and shared through online, offline and through social media channels.

Big shoutout to Chico Racing for making an accessible race course for us! Where the route goes to single track and is too narrow, they'll have double track for the handcycles. This is a picture from 2012 when they tested the concept and Rich and Rob competed as part of a 10 member (mostly able-bodied) team.
