Handbook of a Modern Yogi- Book Publication

This is a crowd funding campaign for my first seminal work, “Handbook of a Modern Yogi.” It is a full length book, already written and edited by yours truly. I am seeking assistance with the Self-Publishing process, which is quite labour and cost intensive. Let me start with the big picture vision of this book, the creative inspiration. Then I will go into more logistical detail with the costs of the publishing process, as quoted by various self-publishing agencies.

“Handbook of a Modern Yogi” may seem like a book about yoga, and it is… Yet it much more than that. I have also considering giving it the title, “Enlightened Self, Enlightened Society”, for that is the scope of this book. Let me give you an overview of the content material.

The book can be broken down into four sections.

Section 1: Foundations of Yoga

Section 2: Holistic Health, Mind Body and Emotions

Section 3: Higher Consciousness

Section 4: Enlightened Society: Global Health and Sustainability

As an avid reader, it is safe to say that this book is unique. One aspect of its uniqueness is the scope. It covers diverse yet interrelated topics, such as physical health markers, mental and emotional clearing, the science of semen retention, the illumination of God, the toxic dynamics of society, catastrophic risks, and models for a sustainable and healthy society. It is a blend of analytical and big-picture knowledge, The East and the West. It a fantastic overview for the good life, and leaves no stone unturned. One can read this big-picture map, and then read more specialised books on the topics that pique your interest.

Now let me introduce the quoted cost of this project. There are two main approaches one can take in the self-publishing process. One is to hire a self-publishing company to assist with every stage of the project. This includes proof-reading, substantive editing, internal design and formatting, external design and cover art, print on demand services (distribution), digital platform services, and marketing. The other approach is seeking different individuals or companies to assist with a given stage of the publishing.

I have done some price comparisons, and it seems that the company TellWell is the best option when it comes to completing every stage to a high standard and at a reasonable price. They may be the one stop shop. The entire publishing process from start to finish is estimated at a little over $10,000 AUD. Here is a link to their website: https://tellwell.ca/guide. I have also inquired with other companies, and found that the first few steps of publishing (substantive editing, internal and external design) can often cost several thousand each, and then the final few stages can cost a few hundred each. So the whole process will likely cost close to $10, 000 AUD regardless of who I go with. I will try and include an image which displays how time intensive the process is, estimated at 180 hours. Most professionals in this space can charge up to $100 per hour for their work, yet in bulk there would be some discount.
