Help Send the Hampton University Band to Rome!

Greetings! The Marching Hampton University Force is honored to be selected as a participant in the 2020 New Year’s Day Parade in Rome, Italy. This is the first time that our entire band will be performing overseas, and the first time that a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) band will be performing in Italy. We are proud to represent Hampton University, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the United States on an international stage. Every year, on January 1st, St. Peter’s Square welcomes over 100,000 people from all over the world to receive the Pope’s New Year’s Day blessing. The parade takes place in conjunction with the World Day of Peace, and throughout our visit, we will have the opportunity to visit and perform in several other local communities.
Our band has played at several National Football League games, performed at the White House for Barack Obama, marched in the 2009 Inaugural Parade, been showcased at the 2018 Honda Battle of the Bands, and has even participated in a cultural exchange program in Honduras. We pride ourselves on not only building strong musicians, but also cultivating students of high moral character who achieve high levels of academic performance. In the 2018-2019 academic year, over 90% of our band members were awarded academic and merit scholarships.
In order to assist us with our fundraising goals, we are asking for your generous assistance in helping to fund the $2,200 cost of the trip per member. This will cover flights, hotel, meals, and uniform/apparel/instrument fees. With a band of 150 students projected to make the trip, each student must each do their part to raise the necessary funds.
