Flood Relief for the Hameka Family

Katie and Tom Hameka and their two girls were victims of the flooding from Hurricane Harvey on Saturday, August 26, 2017. The flood water entered their home in the early hours of the morning and continued to quickly rise, forcing their family into the attic. When it was clear that rescue was not coming soon enough, Katie and Tom left their home, pulling the kids and dog in kayaks. Tom and Katie waded their family through chest/neck deep water until they were united with Tom's family.

Katie and Tom had over two feet of water in their one-story home, where they have lived for well over 10 years. Tom teaches in the automotive technology program at the local community college, and Katie had just started going back to school to become an ultrasound technician. Their girls are ages 5 and 10 and had started the school year at the local Catholic school, which sustained extensive flooding as well.

The Hamekas' future is very uncertain at this point as they lost everything. They are also not located in a flood plain so insurance will not cover damages. The Hameka family is in need of any assistance you can provide. Tom and Katie are very hardworking and loving people. They are often the first to offer assistance to others, and now it is our turn to give back to them. Funds collected will be used for daily living and the rebuilding process - which will take quite some time.
