Hey Halifax!
As we all know, we are in the middle of another wave of COVID-19 that has resulted in a province wide lockdown. This has impact on so many people, including those who are still going to work everyday. This includes fast food workers, grocery store employees, delivery drivers, and restaurant staff (among MANY more!)
A trend emerged on tiktok this year that has been done in several cities called the "venmo challenge". This fundraiser is to start a version of that challenge focused here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The challenge involves a city coming together and creating a pool of money that is then tipped to random service workers (& others).
I am hoping to raise $5000 for the first round of this initiative. That money will equal ten $500 tips that I can go out and give to random workers around our city. This really is a city coming together and showing appreciation not just for the individuals tipped, but for all of those working everyday around our province.
Plus, it may put a smile on someones face.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions (I'm listening Dr. Strang!) this first round will all be within Halifax. But if this is something that gets a following, I'd love to expand it when it is safe to do so.
If you can donate the $1 you'd normally throw in a tip jar at a coffee shop, I think we can really make some peoples day and come together as a community to say one huge THANK YOU.
