Halifax Synchro provides a unique environment for young people in Calderdale and the surrounding areas to be part of a team sport which is at once physically demanding, creative and great fun. It is open to anyone but especially attracts girls 9-15 yrs, many of whom would typically drop out of sporting activities at this age.
Halifax Pool shut in March 2020 due to Covid restrictions and unlike many other pools around the country has been unable to reopen due to the costs and distancing constraints involved.
Halifax Synchro is not just a club, it's a family, and the swimmers have hugely missed being in the pool with their friends throughout lockdown. The coaches and volunteers have worked hard to offer land based training by video over the many months of pool closure and this has been a lifeline for many swimmers who have felt isolated and anxious.
At the end of October training recommenced in a private pool as an alternative to our usual facilities.
As you can imagine, this is not a cheap solution. It is essential that our club remains accessible to families in all income brackets and any funds raised will go towards enabling continued access to training sessions and the necessary costumes for competitions, which we hope will resume next year at some point.
I will be running a half marathon on Monday 28 December 2020 to bid farewell to a year which we can all agree has been challenging at best and truly dreadful for many, including some of our club members. If anyone would be willing to sponsor me in aid of Halifax Synchro I would truly appreciate it and I can assure you that everyone involved at the club will be immensely grateful too.
