Haiti Well Project

Donation protected

Dear Friends and Family,

In February I will be returning to Haiti for my second trip to repair wells.  A little more than a year ago you all contributed $1,200 to fund the work we were doing.  The money donated went towards the materials we used to repair 25 wells on that trip, restoring clean water to more than 150 families.  Each well averages averages about $300 in parts to repair.  70% of Haiti's population make less than $2 per day.  50% make less than $1 per day. For these people, $300 might as well be $100,000.  Even if they had the tools and knowledge to repair a well, they will never be able to come up with the money needed to repair even one well.  In all cases the next closest well was more than 1/2 mile away. In more rual areas, they were forced to get water from poluted streams.
This year we have 9 men going.  We will travel to Artibonite, a rural area to the North of Port au Prince.  We know of 17 wells that are not working.  I am asking for your support to help our mission.  You can either donate through this web site or mail a check to Paola Lighthouse Church with a note in the memo line that says Haiti Mission Trip - Chris Dyer.  The address is 1402 E 303rd St., Paola, KS  66071.  Your donation is tax deductable.

On this trip I also want to take with me sets of boys and girls clothes.  A zip lock with shorts, t-shirt(s), underwear and flip flops.  I'd like to mark each ziplock with the size.  At just about every well last year, we would see several young boys running around naked.  Our in-country missionary said that the parents are faced with the decision to either buy food or buy a t-shirt.  He said it is not uncommon that these kids would go 3 days without a meal, like he did growing up.  I would like to be able to offer a set of clothes to the parents of these children, so that they can focus on feeding their children.  The kids looked to all be between 2 and 6 years old.  If you have used clothes that would fit these ages and can assemble a set, please e-mail me and I will arrange to pick them up.  I had a large bag of flip flops donated already that I can add of sets of clothes.

As before, I would apreciate your prayers the week of February 11th.  The conditions will be a bit more difficult this time.  I didn't have to experience bucket showers last time.  I might not be so lucky this time.

Thank you for your support!
