EARTHQUAKE RECOVERY— Please support the disabled community members of L’Arche Chantal (South). 


 Once again, once too often — our country, Haiti, is struck by a devastating and deadly earthquake. On Saturday, August 14, 2021, the earth rumbled and the great South (Sud, Grande-Anse, and Nippes departments) was ravaged by an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 on the Richter scale. Once again, once too often — We, at L’Arche Haïti are struck. Our community in Chantal (South department) is shaken. The 2 homes where our friends, aka core members (people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities) live, the building housing the protected Workshop welcoming internal andexternal friends, are cracked. The fence walls securing the community premises are destroyed, exposing our 18 core members and their companions to great vulnerability. These walls dating from 1978, making 600 linear meters in total (equivalent to roughly 2 football fields) must be completely rebuilt in an earthquake-resistant manner.  Once again, we ask for your support. Help us protect our Friends. This is an hour of dire need. It is urgent to secure their living space in order to allow them to resume a serene routine away from prying eyes and intrusions of all kinds. Antoine, Marie Anne, Francina and Esther need to be reassured and confident that a better tomorrow is here to come. With our core members we count our blessings. Vulnérabilité des Amis handicapés de L’Arche Chantal (Sud) Une fois de plus, une fois de trop, notre pays Haïti subit l’assaut d’un tremblement de terre dévastateur et meurtrier.   Le samedi 14 août 2021, la terre a grondé et le grand Sud (les départements du Sud, de la Grande-Anse, et des Nippes) est ravagé par un tremblement de terre de magnitude 7.2 sur l’échelle de Richter.  Une fois de plus, une fois de trop, nous, de L’Arche Haïti,sommes secoués.  Notre communauté à Chantal est frappée.  Nos 18 Amis (personnes avec déficience intellectuelle et handicap physique) et leurs accompagnateurs sont exposés à une grande vulnérabilité.  Les 2 foyers où ils vivent, ainsi que le bâtiment logeant l’Atelier protégé, sont fissurés.  Les murs de clôture sécurisant les locaux de la communauté sont détruits. Ces murs, datant de 1978, totalisant 600 mètres linéaires (soit l’équivalent de 2 terrains de football) doivent être totalement reconstruits de façon parasismique. Une fois de plus, nous sollicitons votre soutien.  Aidez-nous à protéger nos Amis. L’heure est grave!!! Il est urgent de sécuriser l’espace de vie, afin de permettre à nos amis internes et externes et leurs assistants, de reprendre une routine sereine à l’abri des regards et des intrusions de toutes sortes.
