Haiti Coding Workshop

Donation protected
I will be hosting a two-day Coding Workshop in Cite Soleil, Haiti on November 22 - 23 with partners Laku Lape and Good Samaritan Foundation Haiti Mission. This workshop will teach 30 participants the basics of coding through hands-on projects and help prepare them with the knowledge and resources to continue to learn to code after the workshop.

There is a growing tech community in Haiti, and I’m excited to help contribute to it by bringing this workshop to Cite Soleil to train coders who otherwise wouldn’t have access to an opportunity like this. I lived in Cite Soleil for five years as a teenager. It was during this time that I started to teach myself to code. This planted the seed that would one day allow me to attend a coding bootcamp at Georgia Tech and that ultimately led to my job as a software engineer at Cox and a tutor and mentor for Trilogy Education Services. I’ve walked in the shoes of those who will attend this workshop, and I would have loved to have a teacher and mentor. I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience to help these participants continue to better their lives.

I’m working with partners Laku Lape and Good Samaritan Foundation Haiti Mission to identify the best participants for this workshop. Many of those signed up  so far have experience with technology and have already learned some basic code. We will have a great group of people who are motivated to learn.

I’m providing this workshop for free, and I’m also paying for my own travel. But I need your help with the rest.

- I want to provide breakfast and lunch for the participants (we can’t feed their brain without first feeding their stomach).

- I would also like to provide jobs for a few local people to help facilitate logistics on the ground.

- I will need tools and resources to teach the course.

- I would also like to provide a donation to both of the partners. Laku Lape is a community dedicated to building peace and reconciliation in Haiti. Good Samaritan Foundation, Haiti Mission has a church, school, computer lab and orphanage in the Cite Soleil community.

Together, we can make this an amazing two days of learning and inspiration!
