Sara's FREEDOM Wig

As some of you may know, I have alopecia areata universalis. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system basically decides to attack the hair folicles. Alopecia areata universalis is the rarest form of alopecia areata and presents itself as the loss of hair over the entire scalp and body. There is no physical pain...this disease instead has a tremendous emotional impact on the person dealing with it.

My case began in 2005. I began losing my eyebrows and eyelashes. They would come and go, but as of now, they are pretty much gone. Since about 2012, I have lost almost all of the hair on my scalp (I'm completely bald except for a couple of very small patches). I have no eyebrows, no eyelashes, and the hair on my legs and arms is also gone.

In March 2014, I purchased my first wig. I wear it just about every day. It wasn't until a couple of months later that I discovered Freedom Wigs (http://www.freedomwigs.co.nz). These wigs are completely LIFE CHANGING for a person who is restricted to hair pieces. These wigs vacuum seal to the scalp and are made with 100% unprocessed human hair (the hair has NEVER been introduced to chemicals). With these wigs, a person can swim, ride roller coasters, play with her children, surf, work-out, wear a ponytail (or any other hair do) without the fear of the wig falling off. It's truly amazing...

My husband and I have decided to pursue purchasing one of these Freedom Wig. They come with a hefty price tag, but the wig will be able to be worn for YEARS (not months like the current wigs I wear)...not to mention the impact that one of these wigs will have on my life...it's completely worth every penny.

I have a consultant in the Austin, TX area, owner of Second Nature Hair (http://2ndnaturehair.com/) who has started filling me in on the information and finances related to one of these wigs. The length of the wig that I will be purchasing costs approximately $4100. Once I receive the wig, I will be taken to my consultant's stylist to have my hair styled, given "baby hairs," colored, etc. -- all of which will make it look completely natural. The cost for that will be around another $200. About half way through the life span of the wig (depending on usage, etc.), it will need to be "repaired." Any pieces that have broken at the cap level will be removed and replaced. Also, the silicone cap will be completely replaced. The repairs cost around $1800.

If you are able to donate even a couple dollars and help me reach my goal, it will be appreciated more than you will know. Please do not feel pressured to donate, though. Your prayers and encouragement will also be sincerely appreciated.

I believe one of these wigs will help bring back the confidence I lost with my hair.

Thank you!
