Hades the Cat Needs Your Help!

Donation protected
Hades has been dealing with multiple problems lately and needs both special care and more surgery.

The Background Story:

My family does not run an organization or shelter. We just got tired of scraping dead kittens off the road because people would dump their unwanted cats in the woods next to our house.

The idea was to catch the cats, domesticate them, neuter/spay them, and then find them good homes. While we got really good at catching cats, we weren’t nearly as successful at finding homes for them. To make things worse, many of the cats have on-going medical issues that pretty much makes them un-adoptable. No one really wants to adopt a pet that needs a lot of pricey special care so we ended up being their forever home.

Fortunately, we were able to break the cycle of feral cats on our property in 2012 by catching the last breeding female, who managed to dump one last litter on us a few weeks later. And that’s how we got Hades.

Meet Hades:

Hades is a very special cat. He became very attached to me as soon as he could walk. He soon became my “spokescat” to make important announcements for my work on Facebook (because cats rule the Internet), and later on he got his own Facebook Page.

But Hades is also special because he’s technically trans-sexual. When he was two years old he developed bladder stones that he couldn’t pass, and after a few emergency vet visits he had to go through a surgical procedure that would remove his boy parts and make a wider opening for him to pass the stones. His long-term care included a very expensive diet.

What Happened:

For five years Hades was doing very well and even gained a bit of a fan club. Then in September 2019 I noticed that he was getting more ornery than usual. We took him to a specialty cat clinic and found out that he was now developing a different type of bladder stone that his prescription diet couldn’t prevent. After treating him for the infection it caused, he underwent surgery again to remove the stone.

While he was under, the vet noticed that some of his teeth were going bad too.

All this happened shortly after I myself underwent a costly-but-necessary dental procedure (Like Mommy, like kitty) and my savings are depleting quickly.  (I'm putting off the next stage of my own procedures to focus on Hades.)

Where The Donations Go:

Hades needs to have dental surgery soon because there's at least one tooth (probably two) that need to come out before it becomes a big problem.  While he's under for the dental surgery, the vet will be doing x-rays and other procedures for his bladder condition. (estimated around $1800.)

Paying off his recent vet bills has taken a big chunk out of my monthly income. His new prescription diet has become even more expensive and he will have to have regular check-ups to catch any more developing stones before they become deadly.

If our goal is exceeded, extra donations will go into helping some of the other cats who have non-life threatening problems.

What We've Been Doing:

Hades’ latest health crisis has made it financially difficult for us, but we do whatever we have to to keep him living well.

Hades now has his own website which includes a shop for cat lovers where the proceeds go toward his vet bills. If you’ve ever stumbled across him on Facebook, you know that he is a very opinionated feline with his own way of looking at things. (And he hates his Mommy’s job!)

We also greatly appreciate donations! If the goal is exceeded, extra donations will be used not only keep the “furry little agent of evil” alive but also to help the other cats we care for.

UPDATE 12/17/2019 -
Some donations have been coming in from other sources so I've adjusted this campaign accordingly.  I would really like to be able to schedule his surgery in February.
