Be Katie Jo's Miracle

Donation protected
You will not find anyone more sweet, loving, courageous, and spunky than Katie. I met her ten years ago in college; she was the girl with the neon glasses (she needed them to help prevent migraines with the fluorescent lighting). Now, the neon glasses are useless; total darkness, quiet, and an eye mask only help relieve some pain. In the last ten years, watching her increasingly suffer is heartbreaking; her quality of life is diminishing. I've had a few migraines in my entire life, and they were absolutely dreadful! She has them 24/7: when she wakes up, when she works, when she tries to sleep....always.
She's researched and undergone multiple surgeries without success. However, this new surgery is almost guaranteed to heal her.
Please, help be Katie's miracle.
Anything you can give is so appreciated that words don't even come close to expressing her gratitude. If you cannot make a monetary donation, please send postive thoughts/love/prayers. Thank you.
With love,
Katie's friend.

Katie's story, in her own words:

"Hey -

My name is Katie and I've always worked very hard in life and I try my best not to ask for help, but I'm sort of in the deep end of the pool right now.

I've suffered from migraines for the past 14 years of my life. Over the past 2 years, they've gone from 5 days a week to absolutely debilitating. I'm talking laying in a dark room, with the blinds shut, eyemask over my face and no sounds whatsoever. The pain get so bad that I have to crawl to the kitchen to get ice.

And just within the last few months, they've devolved to the point where I need to walk with a cane and hold-on to walls because the vertigo, auras, and dizziness from my migraines never stops. I work from home, because I can't drive, and I have to take cabs to the ER and call friends and family if I need to pick-up medication or groceries.

I went from being frustrated that I couldn't participate in my life, to longing for a migraine moderate enough that would still allow me to go to Target.

And I've tried everything, these are a sampling of my meds, and my stock of ice packs, I've been to chiropractors, acupunturists, multiple nuerologists, ENTs, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, the Mayo Clinic and now a Clinic in Cleveland. The clinic in Cleveland has an amazing surgery that could really, truly help me....

But my insurance is denying it... it's a surgery that would decompress nerves in six locations in my head, to block pain signals, and it could give me my life back. I could leave my house, I could date.... maybe even find love, I could drive, I could take a vacation, which I haven't done in 5 years... I could find out what it's like to live again.

I know everyone has a battle their fighting, but if you have an extra $1, or $5, or $50 or $100, that would get me one more step closer to making this possible. And if you aren't able to contribute, please just remember my story and cut the next person you meet who suffers from migraines a little more slack, it's an invisible disease that can steal you life. Thank you."
