Keep a roof over our head

Please donate to help stop our family from getting evicted.

My name is Brittany, and I live in Baltimore with my roommate K., her 7th grade daughter E., a cat, and a dog. We've all lived together for a few years now and in the absence of our families, we've sort of become our own family unit. (The cat and the dog aren't that crazy about each other, but there's one in every family.)

Today, October 6th, we were served with an eviction notice for missed rent payments, totaling $5,500 plus late fees. In the past we've always paid rent promptly, but 2017 was a year of disasters for all of us that took huge dents out of our paychecks. And our landlord has been unwilling to accept any partial payments. Our eviction hearing is set for 8 am on October 14th. If we can pay the $5,500 in full before that date, we can continue to live in this house. If we can't come up with that sum--and we really, really can't, not on our own, not without your help--eviction proceedings will start on October 18th.

None of us have anywhere to go. We can't move in with family, because...well, sometimes you just can't. We're facing homelessness, which...well, I was homeless once, as many of you know, and it's terrible. And I don't want my roommate's 12 year old daughter to know what it feels like, even for a night.

I know this is a rough time to ask anyone for money. People in Puerto Rico are dying for lack of money and supplies and medical care, and it's honestly pretty humiliating to ask for help when so many people need it as much or more than we do. But...it's our home. Literally the roof over our heads. So I have to ask. If you can donate any amount, we would be incredibly grateful.

If you can't afford to donate anything, you could also help us out a LOT by sharing our GoFundMe on your social media--Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Friendster, AOL instant messenger, you name it.

Finally: if by some miracle we raised more than we need to pay the back rent, any extra we receive will be donated to The Hispanic Federation , which is spearheading relief efforts in Puerto Rico. Because other people have already lost their homes, and I honestly can't imagine anything worse.

Thanks, guys.
