<div>Mi historia: ciencia, esfuerzo y comunidad

<div>Hola, soy <strong>Osvaldo Torres Pineda</strong>, físico y doctor en neurociencias egresado de la Universidad Veracruzana, campus Xalapa. Tras años de estudio y trabajo en México, he sido aceptado para realizar <strong>un posdoctorado en neurociencia en la Universidad de Texas en El Paso (UTEP)</strong>, en colaboración con el Dr. Rodolfo Flores, experto en los circuitos colinérgicos implicados en la resolución de conflictos motivacionales.

<div>Mi trayectoria combina física, neurobiología y análisis computacional. Durante mi doctorado estudié <strong>cómo la quimioterapia con cisplatino afecta la vasculatura cerebral</strong>, en particular a los <strong>pericitos</strong>, células clave en la regulación del flujo sanguíneo, barrera hematoencefálica y respuesta al daño neuronal. Este trabajo, aunque de ciencia básica, tiene un alto potencial <strong>traslacional</strong>, ya que las alteraciones neurovasculares están presentes en múltiples condiciones neurológicas y psiquiátricas.

<div>En mi etapa posdoctoral, expandiré esta línea enfocándome en cómo el cerebro toma decisiones bajo conflicto, una función esencial que se ve afectada en trastornos como<strong> ansiedad, depresión o adicciones</strong>. Usaré herramientas como <strong>optogenética, fotometría de fibra y transcriptómica espacial </strong>para estudiar cómo actúa la acetilcolina en la corteza prefrontal cuando se deben resolver dilemas entre recompensa y amenaza.

<div>Aunque cuento con una beca posdoctoral, los primeros días en EE.UU. son críticos. Debo <strong>cubrir gastos inmediatos de instalación, alimentación, transporte y equipamiento básico</strong> mientras se libera el primer apoyo económico. <div>¿Por qué es importante?

<div>Porque<strong> la ciencia básica construye los cimientos de los avances médicos</strong>. Estudiar cómo funciona el cerebro en condiciones normales y bajo estrés permite desarrollar tratamientos más eficaces, personalizados y con menor impacto secundario. Esta investigación puede abrir nuevas vías terapéuticas para millones de personas.
