Coalescence: A Visual and Performing Arts Showing is the brainchild of Anastasia Johnson, Molly Kate Dalton, and Kaitlin Pennington. As emerging dance artists in the Washington, DC area, we noticed there were gaps that needed filling in the arts world: developing artists across disciplines needed a space to connect, they needed a space where they could explore within their craft or experiment with something entirely new, and they needed the opportunity to show these explorations to an audience.

 

Thus, Coalescence was born. The first showing was in November 2019, with around 60 people in attendance. The visual artists were featured in a gallery-styled space, then transitioned into a performance segment concluding the evening with a talkback and reception. Since then, life has changed immensely with much of the arts world taking to virtual platforms to continue bringing people together. In November 2020, we adapted to the virtual performance world to host our second showing and this November, we're doing it again! This time though, we're celebrating a huge milestone: our second anniversary!!

 

Together Anastasia, Molly Kate, and Kaitlin will be hosting the fourth rendition of Coalescence on Friday, November 5th, 2021 at 8 PM EST (7 PM CST/5 PM PST). The showing will be livestreamed from our website, coalescenceshowing.com!

 

Your donation will help us pay for the support we need to make a virtual showcase happen. We are using the virtual performance platform, StreamYard, and to ensure the best showing experience for our artists and audience, we are hiring a Technical Director who will manage the show behind the scenes.

 

Your donation will also invest into the future of Coalescence. Our vision is to continue growing Coalescence beyond two showings a year into an established group that holds multiple events and workshops each year, finds new ways to engage and connect a diverse artistic community, and nurtures young, emerging creative voices. We also want to continue expanding beyond the DC Metro community, which we have already seen happen in just two short years. For this event, we will have artists presenting from four cities and three time zones! With your help, those numbers can continue to grow!

 

We believe that art can change lives. We believe that art is an amplifier, allowing voices to be heard. We believe art creates movements and change. Therefore, we believe in a time such as this, art is more important than ever. Your support means that developing artists can continue to hone their voices, adding beauty and diversity to the world. It also means communities will be ushered into meaningful conversations that are inevitable when art is initiating.
