My Dad is the hardest working person I know. Owning his own pet store, he works 7 days a week and I have never heard him complain about the number of hours he works. The guy barely takes a vacation! Recently, he had excruciating pain in his head and neck and ended up in the emergency room. While everything turned out to be okay with his head and neck, the doctors found a tumor on his pituitary gland. This was completely incidental and while the tumor is most likely benign, he does need to have it surgically removed by a neurosurgeon in order to avoid vision and other pituitary related problems. His prognosis is great but the surgery requires that he take a significant amount of time off from work. In talking with my Dad, his main concern with the surgery is handling the finances while he is out of work. 

As the only person running his business, there is a lot of stress that comes with having to close your store for weeks at a time. There is no paid time off, sick time, or paycheck. While our family is going to try to keep the store open on a limited basis, this will not cover the expenses of the pet store and medical bills while my Dad is not able to work full time. It is our hope that by reaching out to the network of people that my family knows, we will be able to raise some money to help with these expenses so my Dad is able to fully recover from his surgery without being stressed out about work and money. After all, you shouldn’t have to worry about money when you’re trying to recover from brain surgery. Thank you for taking the time to read his story!
