Help Patti Get A Reduction Mammoplasty

Donation protected
Our dear friend Patti Hughes has a heart ten times the size of Texas and then some. She would do anything, for anybody, friend or stranger, no questions asked. She would give her last dime to help someone in need and has done this very thing more than once. (Hell, she only has one kidney because she gave the other to a relative in need, and she'd probably give away her remaining one if she could!)

Patti is the one you call if you have a flat tire, need help moving, get arrested, or if you or someone you know gets sick. She's a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a full-time caretaker, and a true friend. And when it comes to the size of her lion heart, there are only a couple things that come close to giving it a run for its money - namely, her left breast, and her right breast.

Yes, Patti's chest area is well-endowed in more ways than heart size. Her bra size is 40-H, and these are both expensive and hard to find. She has chronic neck, shoulder and back pain, She gets ulcers beneath her breasts if she isn't careful. She has difficulty with breast self exams because her breast tissue is so dense. A large (fortunately benign) mass was recently found in her right breast, and even after she knew exactly where it was, she still couldn't feel it herself.

Her doctors have told her she would benefit from a symptomatic reduction mammoplasty, also known as breast reduction surgery. A well-respected breast surgeon in her town did not hesitate to recommend the procedure as medically necessary. She was all set to have the procedure when she learned that her husband's union insurance policy has a blanket exception for surgeries such as this considered to be elective. To say she was disappointed upon hearing this news woukd be an understatement.

We don't think a surgery such as this, under these circumstances, is elective. We believe it should be considered medically necessary (and her doctors agree). A reduction mammoplasty would help improve Patti's overall health, reduce or eliminate her chronic pain, and make breast cancer self-detection much easier.

The surgery itself costs $5,953.00 not including lab fees (or the commission taken by GoFundMe). We'd like to see Patti be able to get this surgery, and are hoping her friends near and far will help. No amount is too small (or too large), and every little bit helps. And whether or not you can give, we'd be grateful if you'd at least share this link and spread the word.

This is something Patti could never afford on her own and would never do for herself. Let's get her that surgery so she can continue doing the good works she does for so many. And who knows what she will be able to accomplish without two anvils strapped to her chest!

With love and gratitude,

Patti's Pals
