Mary's in home care and therapy

Donation protected

Mary was in a very serious accident Wednesday October 29th 2014. She was driving South on HWY 83 after dropping her 10yr old daughter off at school and then driving to work. Mary was t-boned on the driver's side door by a woman that may have been under the influence at 8:10 in the morning. The other woman did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection  of HWY 83 and HWY K and hit Mary at 55MPH. Mary was taken by Flight For Life from the scene to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee. She underwent surgery immediately to remove her bleeding and torn spleen along with fixing her diaphragm and implanting a chest tube. Mary was then placed on a ventilator to assist her breathing.

Mary had more surgeries on Thursday October 30th. She now has a titanium rod in her left arm which is broken in three spots and a titanium rod in her left leg because of a badly broken femur. Mary's left side of her body is so badly injured she is unable to use her leg or arm. Mary also has an in-operable broken right collar bone which prevents her from using either arm.

Through all of this Mary is a fighter.  She was released from the hospital on Friday November 7th with the assumption that there would be in house nursing help for at least 8hrs per day. We have since learned that is not the case. Her insurance is denying her in-home nursing. She is unable to go to the bathroom herself, take her pills herself, feed herself or bathe herself. Mary needs 24 hr. care. When the family had asked the insurance company for in-patient therapy and nursing, they were told that Mary is not strong enough to have 3-4 hours a day of therapy so she is unable to go there either. The family is doing all that they can but we are all employed full-time. Mary needs to have a nurse with her daily from 6am-2pm to help her go to the bathroom, feed her, bathe her and work on physical therapy with her so she can get stronger. We were told  that having a nurse in house would need to come out of pocket and the insurance will not help. To hire nursing care will cost anywhere from $16.00-$20.00 per hour.

We are asking for any help possible to make sure Mary gets the care she needs and deserves. She needs to get better for her 10 year old little girl who depends on her 100%.

Mary is a mother of three and grandmother of two.
She is a wonderful person with a big heart.
