A Mother\'s Fight For Life...

Last year, my mum Rebecca was diagnosed with Advanced Cancer. The news came just weeks after she was given the five year all-clear that she had beaten this devastating disease. The results showed the cancer had in fact spread to her distant organs including her liver and lungs. 

My six siblings and I listened in shock as experts delivered a very poor prognosis "“ one doctor anticipated she had as little as a few weeks to live. But our mum is a survivor- with our support she is determined to fight the disease. Born with a rare, congenital heart disease, she defied the odds to give birth to seven healthy children. In 1997, she survived a freak accident at a Perth fun park in which she was crushed by a tram. Enduring multiple operations and months of gruelling rehabilitation, step-by step she re-learnt to walk, and slowly regained her independence. 

In battling cancer, she has exhausted all medical options available in Australia. With limited options, a few weeks ago she travelled to a specialist hospital in China called FUDA, which is at the forefront of medical advancement in cancer treatments. Some of the treatments available at FUDA are not yet available in Australia, including one which aims to destroy cancer cells without damaging normal healthy cells- something radiotherapy and chemotherapy are not able to do. Her doctors here in Australia and abroad are optimistic that the necessary return visits to China will greatly improve her quality of life and chances of remission. 

The treatment is not cheap and unfortunately it is not covered by health insurance. Each trip will cost approximately $20,000 and it is expected mum will need three to six trips over the next year. My siblings and I are trying to raise money to help fund this treatment and would appreciate it if you could help us by giving a donation.
