Help us help Nick

Recently we’ve met Nick, a kind, gentle man who is living on the streets and in dire need of help. He’s a man who, like a lot of us, has been dealt a bad hand one too many times. Some of the only people who helped him before are now gone or unable to help him, and though he wants to get himself back on his feet, he doesn’t have all the tools needed to do so. Without an address he can’t find a job, and after losing his identifying paperwork, he can’t get housing. We’ve tried contacting the one possible shelter in our area to help him out with anything, but haven’t had any luck. With extremely limited resources over here in Sycamore, we’re mostly only able to help Nick as much as we ourselves can afford. More than anything, he needs a hand right now to show him that he’s worth being helped, and that he is capable of much more than he thinks. In a time where we’re all more connected than ever, somehow we still have people like him falling through the cracks.

With some help from you all, we want to help Nick get an apartment, and a job, to take him out of survival mode and give him a chance. Though we’ve met him recently, we can’t help but see the hope he has in his situation & the ways the people in our town see the hope in him too. A business lets him store his extra stuff on their property, someone gave him a little raised tent to stay in, he gets food every so often from a young couple; so people care, and people check up on him. Currently people are helping him maintain his current life, but maybe they don’t know how to help him get out of his situation. We don’t totally know either, but my mom is currently trying to find him a more permanent home, and I’ve been trying to find him a job. We’re helping him as much as we can with our limited resources and connections, but maybe with some help we can take Nick out of his situation.

With help from you all, we hope to secure Nick a place to stay, get his paperwork in order, and help find him a job. We’d be extremely grateful, and I’m sure he would be too, if we could help Nick together. Thank you.
