A Proper Jewish Burial

In an effort to do what's right, Patti's five children; Marisa, Andrew, Laura, Craig, and Jacob have come together to raise money so that their biological mother could have a proper burial.

Despite their complicated relationship, the children remain strong and dedicated to raise with the funds and community support necessary to provide a proper burial according to Jewish law and customs as opposed to a cremation.
These five are a source of inspiration; they strive to uphold the holy commandment of honoring their parents till the very end despite the incredible emotional and financial challenges that they now face.
As a community we pray that they will be blessed with peace and clarity in the face of these difficulties. Let us be there to help them in whatever way we can, and to make sure that her soul can quickly return to its source with peace and dignity.
On the deepest level our souls are all connected - when one suffers we are all affected; so let's come together to help in the healing of that universal soul, showing love to our fellow Jews, support to those in our community, and participating in one of the greatest mitzvahs that cannot be repaid; taking care of those who passed on.

Confronting his emotions with so much strength Andrew wrote the following brave post:
I am sharing the following words because they so articulately capture the complexities of what it means to lose a person who brought both love and pain into the world. Our feelings are complicated and we will do our best to keep people in the loop about what we need and what we are doing in the coming days and weeks. Thank you to those who have reached out and offered support.
"My emotions swirl as I say this prayer. The parent I remember was not kind to me. Her death left me... with a legacy of unhealed wounds, of anger and of dismay that a parent could hurt a child as I was hurt.
I do not want to pretend to love, or to grief that I do not feel, but I do want to do what is right as a Jew and as a child.
Help me, O God, to subdue my bitter emotions that do me no good, and to find that place in myself where happier memories may lie hidden, and where grief for all that could have been, all that should have been, may be calmed by forgiveness, or at least soothed by the passage of time."
