Carin' For Taran!

On Friday September 12, 2014,sixteen year old Vernon BC resident Taran Lafond and the Fulton Maroons were playing a high school football game in Prince George B.C. After scoring his first ever touchdown, Taran, who is also on kick return, caught the kickoff and while he was returning the football up-field, he was hit by three opposing players and sustained a serious head injury(Subdural Hematoma). He was rushed to the hospital in Prince George, where he was put on life support in order to stabilize him, so he could be flown to Children's Hospital in Vancouver B.C. Taran's mother Julie, a single mother, is called and told to rush to Children's Hospital as her son is in critical condition and his chances of survival are not very good. Julie and her mother drive the five frantic hours to Vancouver and Julie receives phone calls every 20 minutes from the doctor to keep her updated on Taran's condition. She got to the hospital before Taran arrived, as fog proved to be more difficult than the doctors thought and were unable to lift off. After an agonizing 11.5 hour wait, Taran was finally flown and arrived at Children's Hospital where he was quickly rushed into emergency surgery. Taran had blood in his brain, so they had to cut open his skull and drain the blood out. The prognosis of the surgery was unknown. When he eventually woke up, Taran was considered a miracle. Taran suffered blindness in his left eye and was unable to walk, talk or understand what was going on. After spending 2 weeks at Children's Hospital and had stabilized enough, Taran was accepted and transferred to  Sunnyhill Hospital in Vancouver where he and his mother continue to reside as he undergoes rehabilitation. During these last eight weeks, Julie has been unable to leave Taran's side as he now suffers from anxiety. Julie has been unable to work and has been focusing all of her time and energy on her son. When Taran is finally released from Sunnyhill, he will continue to need extensive medical treatment for many years. Please help this amazing family.
