Girls are the most powerful FORCE FOR CHANGE!
A group of Central Catholic girls will be traveling to the north Coast of the Dominican Republic to work with the Mariposa Center -http://www.mariposadrfoundation.org/ - in June 2015. The purpose of the trip is to work with the young girls in the DR- to empower them through education and sports- especially softball, volleyball, swimming, and surfing.
If a girl stays in school, remains happy, healthy and gains skills, she will marry later, have fewer, healthier children and earn an income that she will invest back into her family and end generational poverty. Investing in the economic potential of girls by giving them access to quality education, health care and helping her feel empowered and in control of her own life can break the cycle of generational poverty.
Our girls will model that it is possible for girls to play sports and value education. They will contribute their own energy and talents in a poverty stricken community. What our girls have to offer will greatly change the lives of the young girls in the DR but the added bonus is that our girls lives will be changed as well!
The interest in this trip is overwhelming and humbling. Close to 30 young female athletes have signed up and are committed to raising the necessary funds. It is approximately $3500 for each girl- covering airfare, lodging, food, safe transportation, a Dominican guide, and emergency insurance.
We are raising money as a group and all funds will be divided equally unless specifically noted for an individual.
