I have known my friend Laura since we were in middle school together. She has an amazing laugh and sense of humor. Laura is a positive person with a wonderful outlook on life, even in hard times.
Laura recently found out she has breast cancer. She discovered a lump in her right breast while performing a self breast exam, which she does every month.
Following her instincts, she saw her doctor and her worst fear was confirmed. She also learned through this discovery that she is a carrier of the BRCA 1 gene. Carriers of this gene are at a greater risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
Laura underwent a double mastectomy on November 17, 2014. She will also have her ovaries removed because she is a carrier of the BRCA 1 gene.
At 34, Laura is facing the hardest challenge of her life. She is the mother of two beautiful children. She recently quit her job to stay at home with her little boy who just turned 2 this January. She is a fighter and wants to be there for her children. Laura lost her own mother to Lupus when she was only 16.
Laura has started chemotherapy and will undergo surgical removal of her ovaries, as well as multiple reconstructive surgeries this year.
I created this fund to help with her medical bills, as well as to purchase a wig, which she was able to successfully do thanks to the love and support she has received so far!
